Accomplishments
2006 Accomplishments
- The Task Force received a $5,000 grant from the Families and Children Trust Fund for the Carolyn Miller Fund.
- The Task Force received a $20,000 grant from the Philip Morris Employee Community Fund for the Carolyn Miller Fund.
- The Task Force received a $500 grant from Wal-Mart.
- The Task Force generated $600 from the cell phone-recycling program.
- The Task Force adopted a family who is staying at the YWCA shelter for the holiday season. We adopted a single mother with four children. The Task Force donated over $900 in gifts and money for the family.
- The Task Force participated in the Chesterfield County Spring Health Fair in May and set up a domestic violence awareness booth for Chesterfield County employees. Over 700 people attended.
- The awareness committee distributed a flyer on workplace violence with Chesterfield County paychecks to over 4,200 county employees in October.
- The Task Force hosted three mini-trainings in March, June and October. Over 150 local professionals and community members attended. The topics were: Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse, Child Protective Services and Domestic Violence Cases, and Accessing Local Benefits through the Department of Social Services.
- In conjunction with surrounding localities, the Task Force’s Delta committee helped sponsor and put together a 12 page insert in Style Weekly in October. The insert covered domestic violence awareness topics and community resources. Over 45,000 copies were distributed in the Richmond metro area.
- The Carolyn Miller Fund helped thirty-three victims and sixty-five children by providing a total of $9,295.53 to victims of domestic violence and their children.
- The Delta committee purchased and distributed 800 domestic violence awareness and prevention mugs for awareness events. Mugs were printed in English and Spanish.
- The Hispanic Outreach committee hosted its first annual “Hispanic Family Day”, which was a huge success. Over 400 community members attended. Outreach efforts included agency resource tables that offered domestic violence awareness materials in English and Spanish.
- The Delta committee hired a website developer to develop and host a website for the Task Force. It is expected to be ‘live’ in early 2007.
- The Delta Committee was selected to receive funding for the next two years to support the intimate partner violence prevention plan. Funding is provided to the Richmond YWCA, which supports Chesterfield’s Delta Project and Delta Coordinator.
- Domestic violence awareness articles were written in both the Chesterfield County Observer and the County Comments.
- The awareness committee sent out a domestic violence awareness article via email to all Chesterfield County school employees.
- The Task Force purchased a display board and table cloth to be used in awareness activities.
- The Task Force had a domestic violence awareness table at Wal-Mart’s Women’s Day event.
- Over 1,000 domestic violence resource cards were printed both in English and Spanish, all of which were distributed at awareness events.
- Domestic Violence Awareness Month Resolution was read at the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors meeting in October.
2005 Accomplishments
- Task Force by-laws were finalized.
- Printed and distributed 4500 brochures for children and domestic violence for teachers.
- Printed 6000 copies of the three Task Force brochures.
- Planned and held three mini-trainings on the topics of suicide and domestic violence, the Chesterfield County Mental Health and Prevention REACT program, and the fatality review committee’s report.
- Organized the Carolyn Miller Auction, which generated approximately $10,000 for the victims of domestic violence in Chesterfield County.
- The DELTA grant was approved, and the implementation of the plan began by assisting in evaluating the RELATE program with a focus group.
- The DELTA funds were used to purchase give-a-away mugs and bags with the Task Force’s logo printed on them.
- Continued to strengthen our link with the Chesterfield County Mental Health Prevention Team through the DELTA project.
- DELTA slogan of “Healthy Relationships Begin With You” was chosen.
- Hispanic Immigrant Project became a committee under the Task Force.
- Awareness Committee set up an informational booth at a community Wal-Mart.
- Task Force set up a display at the Central Library during domestic violence awareness month.
- A Task Force booth was set up at the Women’s Expo in Richmond.
- The Task Force adopted two families from the YWCA and provided over $300 worth of holiday presents for the families.
- Our cell phone recycling collection program generated $600 for the Task Force.
- The Domestic Violence awareness resolution was read at the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors meeting. This year the resolution was also read in Spanish.
- The Task Force received new letterhead.
- There was an increase in the number of applications and the number of women helped by the Carolyn Miller Fund.
