Accomplishments
2008 Accomplishments
- Participated in the Chesterfield County Spring Health Fair in May and set up a domestic violence awareness table for Chesterfield County employees. Over 675 people attended.
- Increased membership on the taskforce- including survivors and other community partners. A new (self-identified) survivor shared her story.
- Added “Domestic Violence in Later Life (DViLL)” as a committee of the Taskforce.
- The DViLL committee held a meeting with Chesterfield Adult Protective Services (APS) and law enforcement under the leadership of Chesterfield County’s Senior Advocate.
- Continued having a moment of silence at the beginning of each Taskforce meeting to honor victims of domestic violence.
- One of the sponsors of “Celebrating Healthy Relationships: Survivors and You” the first ever provider and survivor spa event in Chesterfield County.
- Completed a new strategic plan for the Taskforce.
- Created new resource material (stalking and cyber stalking) and updated phone numbers on other brochures/resource cards.
- Set up a domestic violence awareness table at the Chesterfield County Schools Informational Technology Expo, with over 1300 school employees attending.
- Sponsored the Richmond area Style Weekly insert in October. The 12 page insert covered domestic violence awareness topics and community resources. Over 45,000 copies were distributed in the Richmond metro area.
- The second annual “Hispanic Family Day” was a huge success. Over 300 community members attended. Outreach efforts included 43 agency resource tables that offered domestic violence awareness materials in English and Spanish. Over 24 door prizes were given away.
- Joined the CJ Network of Hispanic Service Providers.
- The Domestic Violence Monologues, “The Heart of the Matter; A Journey Towards Healing” gave a performance at Longwood University in March 2008.
- In October, the Awareness Committee developed resource material concerning stalking and cyber stalking and distributed to all of Chesterfield County Employees through the management distribution process during domestic violence awareness month.
- Three mini-trainings were hosted. Topics included: Elder Abuse, LBGTQ, and Gangs. Over 160 people attended.
- Phase II of the Delta project was completed (saw evolution through the initial planning to full implementation).
- Launched Teen Healthy Relationships website- www.relate2you.com and maintained Taskforce website.
- The Delta project successfully renewed DELTA funding to include additional time through Mental Health Prevention Services and a new position was implemented.
- The Delta project completed the Needs and Resource Assessment for the county and expanded staffing for Project Relate.
- Continued training the committee and Taskforce on Getting to Outcomes evaluation for the Delta Project.
- Sponsored Miss Virginia event at LC Byrd High School.
- There are peer facilitators (for the Delta Project) in five different sites- a total of 329 students, 2 after school programs (which include 2 high schools).
- Project Relate, which introduces middle and high school youth to healthy relationships, increased the number of students served and now has 5 sites serving over 400 youth.
- The Task Force received the following grants/funds in 2008:

- We are in the process of printing 2000 Spanish resource cards and 8000 English cards. In addition, we have printed 8000 “Getting help to stop domestic violence” brochures and 4000 “Children who witness domestic violence” brochures.
- Over 1,000 Healthy Relationships brochures were printed and distributed by the Task Force.
- Distributed 100 stalking fact sheets to VSU students.
- The public awareness committee started implementation of project providing awareness brochures to doctor’s offices.
- The Carolyn Miller Fund helped 22 victims and 34 children by providing a total of $9,820.95 to victims of domestic violence and their children.
- Invited the Board of Supervisors to attend general Taskforce meeting for informational purposes.
- Attended the Board of Supervisor’s meeting in October and received the proclamation for the Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
2007 Accomplishments
- The Carolyn Miller Fund helped 28 victims and 58 children by providing a total of $12,585 to victims of domestic violence and their children.
- The Domestic Violence Monologues, “The Heart of the Matter; A Journey Towards Healing” gave 3 performances, reaching over 150 people. A DVD of the monologues will be used in the future to increase awareness.
- Participated in the Chesterfield County Spring Health Fair in May and set up a domestic violence awareness table for Chesterfield County employees. Over 800 people attended.
- Set up a domestic violence awareness table at the Chesterfield County Schools Informational Technology Expo, with over 1000 school employees attending.
- Sponsored the Richmond area Style Weekly insert in October. The 12 page insert covered domestic violence awareness topics and community resources. Over 45,000 copies were distributed in the Richmond metro area.

Outreach efforts included 24 agencies that offered domestic violence awareness materials and other helpful information in English and Spanish. Over $1,600 was raised in sponsorships funds and 17 door prizes were given away.
- In October, all county and school employees were emailed a flyer on Children Who Witness Domestic Violence, reaching over 9,000 employees.
- Three mini-trainings were hosted. Topics included: Mild Brain Trauma and Domestic Violence; Ft Lee’s Victim Advocacy Services; and Stalking. Over 160 people attended.
- The Delta project launched the Task Force website, www.dvtaskforce.com.
- The Delta project completed the Needs and Resource Assessment for the county and expanded staffing for Project Relate.
- Project Relate, which introduces middle and high school youth to healthy relationships, increased the number of students served and now has 5 sites serving over 400 youth.
- The Hispanic-Latino Immigrant Project sponsored a workshop for the Hispanic community, Education of the American Culture for the Domestic and Sexual Violence Survivor.
- The Hispanic-Latino Immigrant Project participated in the HOST fiesta activity at Chester Baptist Church and distributed resource materials in English and Spanish.
- The Task Force received the following grants in 2007:

- The Task Force generated $364 from the cell phone-recycling program.
- 650 “Children who Witness Domestic Violence” brochures were re-printed and distributed, sponsored by Defense Supply Center.
- Over 1,000 domestic violence resource cards were printed and distributed by the Task Force.
- Domestic Violence Awareness Month Resolution was read at the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors meeting in October.
