The fund is named for Carolyn Miller, who was murdered in her Midlothian home just before Christmas 2000 by a man who professed to love her. She was a mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Carolyn’s death profoundly affects her family and friends, but such incidences also have a chilling effect on our community. Every four days in Virginia, domestic violence claims the life of an innocent victim.
In a unique partnership, the Chesterfield County Domestic Violence Task Force, Inc. and family and friends of Carolyn Miller have joined together to establish this fund. The crisis fund provides monetary assistance to victims and their children to increase safety with the ultimate goal of saving lives. We have raised over $79,000 in five years and are proud to say that all proceeds have been given to domestic violence victims. For example, we have provided for a victim to return to her family in Vermont, for monthly apartment rental fees, car repairs and utility bills and for a security system to help a woman and her children feel safe in their home.
